Increasing Brake Life
Having to replace brake pads too often can really put a dent in your wallet. There are a few things you can do to save your money and increase their longevity, such as:
- Slowing down before stopping
- Not applying too much pressure
- Driving at the speed limit, not above
- Coasting more often
- Knowing when to get them serviced
Knowing When to Replace
An important step to increasing the life of your brakes is knowing when they need to be changed. If you ride too long on worn brake pads, the rotors will eventually become damaged. Having to replace the rotors adds unnecessary cost to the job. Listen for squealing. Sometimes the pads squeal after a rain. If it’s a dry day and they keep squeaking, you’ll want to replace the pads. Checking the wheels for brake dust is another important step. If you hear any grinding when you stop, then you will want to get the rotors inspected. Keeping the brake system properly maintained is an important step in making sure your vehicle is functioning as safely as possible.
